I went over to dead.net and was looking through the store and was suprised to find that you can not purchase anything from the Filmore West 69 run anymore. The big box is sold out, the little box is currently not available and Live Dead is not even listed on the site (I found Skull and Roses under the studio album section). I also noticed that very few releases are currently available as downloads.
So I went over to iTunes and found the remastered Live Dead but noticed that they only have 30 releases currently for sale. I seem to recall the number was about 3 times that before.
Not sure what this means but if they can't actually offer up the stuff that has already been released, it does not bode well for new releases.

Thanks. I actually have mp3 copies of all 4 shows from the run. I went to the site looking to upgrade and support the band. Thats what I found so odd about it. I could not even spend my money if I wanted to. Its really strange because in the description of the currently not available 3 CD set, it states that none of the material from Live Dead is repeated in this release yet you can't purchase Live Dead from the site. It just makes no sense to me.

I agree with JOTS. I think there is plenty of free music out there and it is the Grateful Dead's right to try to make some money on music they made. Another forumite recently told me he had downloaded all of the taper's section "releases" prior to the switch to streaming only. He said he got 100 hrs of free music in those downloads. What other band out there would give away 100 hrs of music!! And what other fan base would instead of being grateful for this gift, start whining like babies because 100 hrs is simply not enough?
You are entitled to NOTHING, be thankful for what you have.
I bought another DP today. I hope that by purchasing material, Rhino will be encouraged to release more.

Yea, I plan to go see Ween not this Friday, but the Friday after in SC due to your rec, and that of some others, and having listened to some higher rated shows here on the archive.
Don't know where the Wilco footage came from -after coming home from trick or treatin' last night I found myself staring down the second bottle of red and that damn youtube grabbed me way past the time I should be asleep on a "school night".

Update: I went back to dead.net and found that you can now purchase Live Dead but only in one format. Vinyl. This is not a joke. I know there are a bunch of people who still believe that this is the only way to listen to music but talk about marketing to a small group. Deadheads who thumb their noses at lossless.

Vinyl making a comeback. . . cool I still have LiveDead, Europe '72 etc on vinyl out in the garage.
My 14 year old asked me what all the giant CD things were one day . . .so I took them out for a quick trip down memory lane. I'll have to get on of those portable box turntables with the speakers and all so I can play the LPs for the kids someday for kicks.
